While I was singing some old standards in the shower this morning a goodbye song popped in my head to use with my preschoolers. I tried it with my first class today and it was a success so I wanted to share it with you guys!
To the tune of “If Your Happy and You Know It”
Goodbye Song
We had fun at dance today, hooray! (HOORAY!)
We had fun at dance today, hooray! (HOORAY!)
So let us jump up high, turn around and say “goodbye,”
We had fun at dance today, hooray! (HOORAY!)
I love how ingrained music is in our minds and bodies. I did not have to teach them the second “hooray,” they knew to add it automatically because they already knew the tune-what clever thinking!
We first sang it adagio, then moderato, and finally we sang it presto! I love the idea of them singing about what fun we had together before we leave and who doesn’t like to jump up high and turn around?
Crazies. That’s who.
Do you have a goodbye song? What is your ending ritual?
P.S. that’s my brother-in-law and his friend showing us how to rock at jumping high. How lucky am I to have gotten such a fun family!
